The Korea Art Education Association (KAEA) was founded on January 21, 1992, with the
aim of helping to improve the quality of art education in elementary, junior, and senior
high schools, and to promote organized research activities related to art education.
KAEA encourages excellence in research, teaching, and practice in the field of art education.
KAEA¡¯s membership includes individual and institutional members, teachers, scholars,
professors, and students. With a diverse membership composed of more than 700 teachers,
scholars, professors, students, and art administrators, KAEA has emerged as the focal
point for intellectual and professional interactions, thereby serving as the principal arena
for linking thought and practice within the field of international society of art education of
International Society of Education through Arts and National Art Education Association,
as well as Korea Research Foundation and Korea Association of Academic Societies.
KAEA operates through its annual academic conferences, newsletters, and Art Education
Research Review (in Korea).

In order to achieve the founding objectives, the Association is engaged in the following
specific activities.
1. Hosting regular academic conferences, presentations, lectures, and symposiums.
2. Publishing periodic academic journals, collections of research papers, books and
periodicals on resources for art education.
3. Developing and distributing media and resources for art education.
4. Promoting the exchange of information and partnerships with domestic and overseas
institutions, national research institutions, and other academic and research groups.
5. Opening exhibitions, and offering field trips to learn about art and culture.
6. Advising government agencies on art education policies, and public projects.
7. Supporting research activities, and rewarding those with outstanding achievements.
8. Engaging in other projects that are necessary to achieve the founding objectives
of the Association.
The Association is an academic group that deals not only with the ideal approach to art
education, but also the actual art education of elementary, junior, and senior high school
students, and the diverse areas that are related to art education.
Since 1992, the Association has been registered as a member of the Korea Research
Foundation, Ministry of Education, and Korea Association of Academic Societies.
The Association is working closely with overseas institutions,
such as InSEA, NAEA, and the College Art Education Society in Japan, as well.
